HOKONUI FASHION & VENOM HAIR

2 July - 31 July

Fashion and hair collide in this unique collaboration of two iconic Southern brands.

This exhibition features previous top-level award winning garments from the Hokonui Fashion Award Show. Fashion items in this display have been selected from garments featured in the Award Show since 1990. This is a fascinating look at evolving New Zealand runway fashion over the last twenty-six years, with an eclectic range of materials and styles. Alongside these garments, the artistic and innovative hair creations of Adrian Barclay are featured in photographs. His hair collections have graced the cover of worldwide magazine publications and this selection clearly demonstrates why Adrian has fast become New Zealand’s hairdressing rock star.

The Hokonui Fashion Design Awards began in 1988 as a regional Make and Model fashion event held in Gore. Now in its 28th year with entry numbers increasing annually, ‘The Hokonuis’ are the longest running fashion design awards of their type in the country.  The Hokonuis continue to be a platform for amateur designers to display their talents in a public forum at a high-level fashion competition, judged by some of New Zealand's top industry identities.

Southlander Adrian Barclay is the creative director and owner of Venom Hair, with a successful career spanning twenty-four years. The winner of hairdressing’s highest accolade ‘New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year’ at the Sydney Hair Expo has seen Adrian and his team at Venom become internationally recognised.
